Triphala: The Ayurvedic Marvel for Eyes, Weight Loss, Skin, and More!
In the world of Ayurveda, Triphala holds a revered position for its multifaceted health benefits. Derived from the Sanskrit words "Tri" (three) and "Phala" (fruit), Triphala is a powerful blend of three fruits: Amalaki (Indian gooseberry), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula). Let's embark on a journey to explore the diverse applications of Triphala for overall well-being.
1. Triphala for Eye Health (चक्षुष्य)
Triphala's vision-enhancing properties are well-known in Ayurveda. To promote eye health, consume 2gm of Triphala at night before sleep with unequal quantities of honey and ghee. This simple concoction nourishes and rejuvenates the eyes, helping maintain optimal visual clarity. It also helps in getting rid of eye problems like eye strain, eye strain headache and dry eyes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for folks who spend a considerable amount of their time in front of screens.
For kids- you can mix 1 gm of triphala churna in unequal quantities of honey and ghee and give them to consume at night.
2. Triphala for Weight Loss (स्थौल्यहर):
Triphala supports weight loss efforts as it aids digestion and metabolism. Moreover, when consumed in this way, it also helps in managing blood sugar levels and I always recommend this concoction to patients of diabetes, PCOS and pre-diabetes.
Prepare a decoction by boiling 5gm of Triphala churna in water. After cooling completely, mix it with honey and drink on an empty stomach in the morning. This natural elixir helps in shedding excess weight.
Triphala for Glowing Skin (वर्ण्य) and Oral Health (मुखदौर्गन्धहर):
Triphala proves its prowess in enhancing skin radiance and oral health.
Create a mouthwash cum face wash by soaking an equal quantity of Triphala churna and coriander seeds in water for 4-5 hours. Strain and use this natural solution to keep your mouth and face revitalized.
Triphala as a Mild Purgative (मृदु विरेचक):
Triphala exhibits mild purgative properties, making it useful for cleansing the digestive system. However, it primarily benefits individuals with an excess of Pitta and Kapha in their gastrointestinal system (मृदु / मध्यम कोष्ठ). For purgative use, consume 8-10gms of Triphala churna at night or in the morning between 6-10 a.m.
It is not of much benefit in people with excess of Vata in their systems (क्रूर कोष्ठ) or people who suffer from chronic constipation. In such cases, a doctor consultation is highly recommended to evaluate the individual and make a treatment plan for complete relief.
