सू .1/34 I read this today and wanted to share it with you all. This is an excerpt from one of  the Ayurvedic texts Ashtang hridayam which clearly and bluntly instructs the vaidyas to not extend their medical help to people who have ill feelings for the king or the vaidya, to enemies, to men who can't arrange for their medical expenses, to people who have an unsteady and shaky state of mind, to folks who don't follow the orders of the vaidya , to a person who is on the verge of death, to men who are arrogant, grief- stricken, timid, ungrateful and most importantly   to the populace which considers themselves as doctors ...

Debunking the myths related to Ayurveda-1

"Top ayurvedic remedies for hair fall" or "10 best Ayurvedic tips for weight loss"...sounds familiar..isn't it? Google keywords like 'w eight loss' or 'skin glow' and these web pages will pop on your screen. But are these tips which claim to be 'Ayurvedic' are really so? The folks in India are particularly inclined to stuff which they perceive to be natural and there is a common misconception that everything natural is 'Ayurvedic'. As an Ayurvedic student writing this and supposedly an Ayurvedic student reading this, I want to make it very clear that  'not all the natural remedies are Ayurvedic' For example, 'application of aloe vera gel on your face is a remedy for pimples' .Here, although aloe vera gel is a plant extract and is natural, still has nothing to do with Ayurveda. So, I am stating in this place remedies and things which are stated as 'Ayurvedic' all over the net and are a...

Incorporating Ayurveda in your daily life

Hey friends, So,I have this engineer friend who stresses a lot on how should I not use my phone when the battery is crucially low.I know you might be wondering that what's new in that. Thanx to the forwarded WhatsApp messages that we all know about how harmful those rays or whatever you choose to call them can be which are emitted in plenty when the phone's battery is below a certain level. Everyone including your youngest sibling knows that it works on the ailments so what have you gained by studying Ayurveda. Everyone knows those little totkas or the home remedies for ailments such as a minor headache, cough, ...

A snippet of advice for our upcoming ayurvedacharyas :)

You must have started with your lectures probably..till now you would have probably attended the anatomy dissection lab..I know for some of you its the only place which actually makes you feel like a doctor in the first year. The smell of formalin, the sight of the shriveled dead body lying on the dissection table and not to forget the stained aprons...  Till now, you would have probably come across Padarth Vigyan and not to forget the hideous Sanskrit lectures. (especially for those who didn't have Sanskrit in their school)  The 'Natva saraswati devi' would have probably sat on your tongues by this time probably.   It would be a great experience for some learning about the Doshas and off course accessing the Prakriti of their fellow classmates and friends and at the same time it may be a distressing experience for others to come across such unfamiliar terms which one was never acquainted to before joining BAMS. So, for those of who have started  loving  ...

Introduction

So, the results of the PMT exams are out...Weren't able to make to the cutoff for MBBS...cant afford to drop another year preparing for medical and not to forget facing the awkward questionnaire of over-enthusiastic relatives like 'kya padh rahi ho/rahe ho beta? or something like 'kitne saal hue 12th pass kiye?'     You have a few choices left after this- You can entirely drop off your aim of becoming a doctor and enroll for a bachelor's course in science. Can get yourselves enrolled in a biotechnology course Can go for paramedical courses Can go for dental or alternative medicine like ayurveda or homeopathy. If you belong to a family like mine where the mindset is like' Doctor banne se achha kuchh nahiin hota' or something worse like' agar biotech kiya to bahar jakar naukri nahiin kar paogi shaadi aur bacchon ke baad'  or something more chauvinist like ' doctor ban gayi to doctor ladke se shadi ho jayegi'. (I know guys all this i...
